There are several ini file tweaks that are aimed squarely at stuttering (even though frame rates are high !) There must be something in the way Vista preloads stuff and swaps it in and out

So far my solution is to use the nVidia for the video and Microsoft for the audio and it "generally" works ok.

Am I the only one actually using Windows Vista?
Are you running MCE2005 or a version of Vista? As best I can remember the NVIDIA Icon showed with the trial version. Did the XP decoder utiltly provide any usefull information assuming you are running MCE 2005. The video is the same as before (jerky). The Windows XP Video Decoder checkup utility shows this;
